Free the mind & Let the spirits soar

No one knows exactly where the word spa comes from, but there are two main theories. One is that spa is an acronym for the Latin phrase, “salus per aquae,” or “health through water. “Others believe the origin of the word “spa” comes from the Belgian town of Spa, known since Roman times for its baths. They speculate that the town was so prominent that the very word spa became synonymous in the English language with a place to be restored and pampered. Modern spas have their roots in ancient towns famed for the healing powers of their mineral waters and hot springs. Travellers would come to “take the waters” and restore their health.

The practice of bathing in hot springs and mineral waters dates back at least to the Babylonians and Greeks, and knowing people, probably much earlier! In the 19th century, Europe’s great spas were destinations for the wealthy, who went there to “take the waters.” Water treatments are still considered the heart of the spa experience in Europe. Today, massages and facials are by far the most popular spa treatments in Asia.

Planning to pamper yourself, whether it be meditation, yoga, mineral springs, mud baths, mud wraps, reflexology, foot massage, hot stone body massage, oil massage, beauty treatments, or a combination of them all in a “holiday” afternoon, is just about better than the treatment itself.

Reflect on that statement for a moment, anticipation of what is to unfold allows you to unwind now as you can just about touch the sensation you will be receiving soon at the hands of one of the many professional therapists that await you. Experiencing the beauty of being spoilt is what a vacation is all about, and let’s not forget, this is all about you, relax and let your cares slip away.

Decisions on what treatment to choose can be as challenging as you want them to be, as is the choice of Spa. Shall we choose one that is nestled mountainside overlooking the Pacific ocean, or for the romantically minded, the “East Sea”, with the sound of waves gently rolling against the white sands; alongside the Cai River, where your secluded bungalow, complete with sauna and steam rooms, opens to the elements; relaxing in hot mineral springs before an amazing mud bath, all in a natural rock pool setting, yoga on the beach, meditation in a serene location, or in one of the many spacious private room spas that abound in Nha Trang. So you have made your choice of treatment, agonizingly whittled down your list of locations to your ideal one, book it and now you are lazing around the infinity swimming pool with spectacular views of Nha Trang bay, whilst unraveling the plot of the latest Stephen King novel, and totally at peace with the world. This is what a holiday in Nha Trang is all about. Later that day, arriving at your sanctuary for the next two and a half hours, your expectations are well founded when you are greeted with the scent of lavender and mint, friendly staff, settled into a soft lounge, and handed a freshly squeezed glass of lemon juice.

Immersed in complete sensual pleasure, relaxing muscles, smoothing away lines, refreshing and rejuvenating your skin, and clearing your mind, these are our last thoughts as we drift off into the world of Spa heaven.
